This just in…..! JHS PTSA endorses LWSD Bond Measure!

At the February 10th General PTSA meeting the JHS PTSA unanimously endorsed the Lake Washington School District's Bond measure which will be on the ballot on April 26! If passed a full rebuild of Juanita High School could occur. The plan is to retain our beloved pool and vast field house. JHS was originally built as an open system school and therefore was never designed properly when classrooms were carved out inside, only to accommodate 1,200 students. Today there are more than 1,400 and the number continues to rise.  Most classrooms lack windows, there are inadequate bathroom facilities and outdated HVAC systems. As the oldest building in the district it is the district's top priority for a rebuild.

Juanita is not the only school experiencing overcrowding, therefore the $398 million measure would also include one new middle school and two new elementary schools as well as rebuilding Peter Kirk and Mead Elementary School. It would also replace the Explorer Community school classrooms and refurbish the Old Redmond Schoolhouse for preschool classes.

The district will complete these projects without raising your property tax rate. State matching funds and impact fees will also be available to offset building costs. For more facts about the bond, please go to the district website at www.lwsd.org/news/news or the LWSD Bond site at www.lwsd.org/News/2016-Bond/pages/default.aspx . This bond is the first of four district bonds designed to address long-term overcrowding and rebuild of old buildings. The district has other probable measures for 2018, 2022 and 2026, should this bond measure pass. All bond measures are scaled to maintain a level tax rate.
